What I Am Thankful For?

2010 has been very good to me! I have a job that does not require me to wake up early in the morning and I don't have a boss that impose things on me. But the best thing about it is I earn the same amount of money, a regular employee earns! Sometimes even more.

What's my job? I'm a BLOGGER! nuff said.

Another thing that I'm very thankful for is my lovelife is going strong. Almost two years! 23 months to be exact. This is the longest relationship I've been to, ever. I think this means I change a lot na! teehee :D Third I'm thankful because HE gives me all the things that I need and not the things that I want. I'm so blessed. Thank YOU for everything! :)

After i log -in on the internet the first thing that i will do is to check my Gmail account. After that I will check all the updates of all my primary SNS (social networking sites) like Facebook, Twitter & Plurk. I have so many accounts on all these SNS. Twitter, Plurk, Digg, Friendster, Facebook, Multiply, FormSpring, Tumblr, Yahoo Meme, Identi.ca, Fizzer.PH, BrightKite, Aloo.PH, FourSquare, StumbleUpon, Youtube & a lot more.

I signed up primarily not just to gain cyber friends & to create an online presence for myself. But to promote my blogs too. If done right, you will be amazed on its effectivity. For instance in the opening of another season of Pinoy Big Brother, (the hit reality show of ABS-CBN) one of my blog got a whopping 11,213 hits on one day, no SEO done.

Just pure social media marketing. I created a Facebook Fanpage and a Twitter account for this blog of mine few months ago and little did I know that I can fully utilize the power of it few days ago. 60+ % of my traffic that day is from Twitter & Facebook & the remaining is from those organic searches from Google & Yahoo. I found out about this trick accidentally and I want to learn more about it. So The 3rd Social Networking Conference 2010 is really apt for me because I live and breath on the internet. I am online for more than 7 hours a day and being a struggling blogger I can really use all the lessons learned after I attend this conference. Here are the other reason...

S - ocial networking. this word is so vague I need to fully understand all the concepts that surrounds it.
O- nline media. This is the "in" thing now. Gone are the days where you have to wait for the newspapers to print out before you read the latest news.
C - onference like this one will help people like Social Networkers, Bloggers, (like me) Managing Directors, General Managers, Digital Strategist, CRM Managers, Direct Marketing Managers, Database Managers, Brand Managers, Category Managers, Product Managers, Advertising Managers, Corporate Communication Managers, Marketing Managers, Internet Marketers, Media Managers, Content Providers, Web Developers to fully utilize the use of social media as a way to get to traffic to their website, to create brand awareness or just to create an online presence.
I - n this generation, where all people are already jumping on the social media bandwagon. I don't want to be left out.

O - ne of the people I admired online, Janette Toral, the founder of DigitalFilipino is also here to give a talk on Social Media Study.
R - ight now I don't really consider myself as a pro when it comes to this field, so attending this event will take me a notch higher.
K - nowing the right people. that is one key to success in Social Networking.
I - 'm so interested on the topic of Janette Toral entitled "Using Social Media in Search Engine Marketing Campaigns and It Influences Your Search Engine Rankings" It really suitable for blogger like me.
N - otable online people like JOEY ALARILLA, the Social Media Editor of Yahoo! Southeast Asia will also be present on the event. I can't wait to meet him.
G - lobe Telecom's Paul John Pena is so interesting too. They are the one of the leading Philippine company when it comes to online presence.

As a child I always dreamt of waking up to a new world. A world where all my fantasies came to reality. I'm a grown up now, but this dream will always be on my mind.

King of Varanas
My day started when an assistant told me that there will be troops from Sascila Steppes that want to invade Varanas, I immediately ordered my army to get their best weapons ready because we are preparing for a battle. This is really surprising I really thought that we already have ties with that Kingdom. Greediness strikes again! Taborea will be chaotic once again. My Queen is so worried, on this future battle and she just want to have a peaceful negotiation between Sascila Steppes and Varanas.

Invasion
That troops really caught us by surprise, they were already at the fronts of our kingdom gate. It's really such a heartbreaking scene when one by one my armies are killed by these bastards. I agree my force are weak this time, who would have thought that this day will be a bloody one.

Arrgghhh!!! I was hit by an arrow! And suddenly all those memories flash back! The day when I met my queen and the day she gave birth to our first daughter. That was the happiest moment of my life.

Still Fighting
I managed to pull back the arrow that hit my arm, only God knows how it's so painful. I must fight back! I will not let them get this kingdom. I have a long time protecting this place since my father transfer his authority to me. I got hit by another arrow! We were so outnumbered in this battle! Is this my final hour? ... Suddenly my alarm clock ring! I just got back to reality. Whew! I have to attend school today, I hope I can continue that dream when I sleep later.

I promised to win that fight for Taborea.

That Shoe

Sometimes, we tend to forgot how a pair of shoe can change our lives forever.

I'm on the 6th on my elementary school then, when one my classmate poke fun at my imitation shoe. I called it an imitation shoe because it look like the real deal but it's not. The misspelling of the brand name tells that it's not genuine. You know back then, when your mom has no job and your father is a jeepney driver you can't really buy all the things that you want. We're four siblings, so having a new pair of rubber shoes, is already a good thing for us. Because normally shoes and school uniform is just pass-on to the younger sibling in our family. My school uniform back then, is just always 'pinaglumaan' of my older brother. Primarily because it's still usable and our parents can save a lot of money on it.

This classmate of mine, who is 2 years older than me is sitting at the back of my seat. He keeps on reading what is written on my shoes, and asked sarcastically where did i bought those shoes loudly enough to hear by nearby classmate, with a big grin on her face.

"It's just a gift so I don't know", I replied. After I got home, I immediately got the blade & removed the part where the brand is written. That shoes is black overall, but it has an orange thread stitches for the brand. After that I used a pentel pen so the part where I scraped the brand is not that noticeable.

I don't know, I just dont like to be the subject of ridicule among classmate so I tend to follow the norm even I can't. I just think that without the brand name he wouldn't make a fool out of me just like the other day.

But not, this classmate's hobby is to make fun of other classmate just to feel good about himself. He always asked what is the brand of my sando, or if my socks are branded or what. His stuffs are branded, which is considered a luxury for me. He always boast to us that his father is a film director and all of his brothers are studying at Mapua. He always bring all her Bone Thugs & Harmony CD just to show-off.

After that year, he is my classmate again when I am a sophomore student at a public high school in Caloocan. I just don't know what happened to him the year after.

I just saw him a few years ago in Sangandaan, Caloocan when I am going home. He is waiting for passenger & riding a pedicab. Yup, he is a pedicab driver now. I asked him what happen and if he still remembers me, he says he got her girlfriend pregnant and ran away from home. I feel his awkwardness on our conversation, so I don't bother to continue.

He don't wear any shoes at all, instead it's a tsinelas. The devil in me, want to ask what is the brand of his slippers, but I don't think that is appropriate. Lessons learned: BE HUMBLE. You may have the most expensive kind of shoes today, but that's not permanent.

Having all the luxury in the world, doesn't give you right to ridicule others.

My Most Memorable Christmas Experience just happened last year, 2009. It is memorable for me because it's the time of the year, when we are all complete. We spend our Christmas at Bulacan, at my Kuya's house. Since Kuya is married already and I'm living now independently on a boarding house, this Holiday is so exciting because we really missed everyone.

Sure there are text that would keep us company but nothing can beat the feeling of happiness when your love ones are with you when you are on Christmas Day. I hope we can do that again this year, 2010.

Here in the Philippines, most of us Filipinos thinks that being fair-skinned is beautiful and having a brown or darker skin makes one an inferior. Actually me too! I mostly bewildered over whiter skinned people over not so white ones. Sometimes I blame the media (Television, Print & Internet) for this discriminating norm of beauty.

I grew up with nothing or little confidence on myself because I really feel that I am just mediocre plus added the fact that i have a "Filipino" nose and a kayumanggi skin. You know what, sometimes I blame my parent for having this kind of nose. It's like a sore thumb that really stand out. Sometimes when people talk to me, I always think that they're looking at my nose & I end up nakayuko just to hide it :( Unbelievable but it's true, that's how small I see of myself.

I console myself to some good things that I inherited from my parents like my height and having a dimple on my right cheek. But it doesn't end there, the society's standard of winsomeness is not really on me. I grew up anti-social and I find the internet a haven for me. Since on the cyberspace, you don't have to see your friends & other people online, face to face just to talk to them.

Since I can't fix my nose for now & in the near future because of it's high cost and I'm really afraid of needles and all that stuff, I resort to other things just to hide my 'imperfections' like buying branded clothes if I have the money because I feel that wearing some branded clothes & accessories has some sort of psychological effect that makes you feel pogi at times.

I had to try skin lightening too. Believe me I tried every whitening product on the market just to fit in this so-called beauty standard on this cruel society. Placenta Soap, Sulfur Soap, Magic Soaps, Herbal Soaps, Papaya Soap, Kojic Soap, P*nds Whitening Cream & M*xipeel Exp*liant (which is a huge hit back then, you will see many people with icky peeling skin on their faces hehehe) name it, I tried it all, and of course these things are not free just imagine it's cost to me just being a student back then. I don't know why I'm such a fan of these products, maybe that's clear indication that I'm insecure to myself.

Some of it did work for me but there is some disadvantages like there is peeling on my face & there's a stingy sensation when that affected skin is touched by something. Or I can't stay long under the sun, because my skin is being treated. Well I just thought back then that 'beauty is pain' in order to get the looks that you want you must suffer a little.

I play hide & seek with the sun just to get the skin that I want, I don't go out with no reasons at all or if I do I bring my umbrella with me. You would just see me watching my friends when we go out in the beach, because I'm still waiting for the sun to come down so I can finally enjoy the inviting water with them.

All of my effort didn't come to waste when I was hired by Bench Clothing, it was so fulfilling to me because when i'm just a service crew at a fast food chain I would always envied those Bench staffs whenever I pass by to their store & always wished that I would be one soon. Luckily I become a sales crew for Bench Clothing in Robinson Manila.

People would always be surprised that I got in, because some says that the HR department of that company would always requires a good looks before they would hire someone. Being of one Bench staffs has developed my confidence too, I started to dress-up well, got my hair colored & my upper ear lobe pierced. I developed communicating skills to others too because in there, you are required to talk to other (to costumers for instance) These things created the NEW ME, the better me.

I can say that I'm not baduy in terms of mixing & matching outfits anymore. My complexion improved too.

If my pictures looks gloomy before, well not anymore. I think the hapiness come from within!

I discovered Glutamax because of my housemate who now live in Taguig. I tried it first on my face to test it's effectiveness & surprisingly it works on me. Without the peeling of my skin & the stingy feeling that product with Hydroquinone has.

Using Glutamax doesn’t mean that I abhorred me, being Filipino, I just want to feel good about myself and having a lighter skin is one of my moral booster to face other people with confidence.

That was April 9 and 10, nung inaya ako ng friend na sumama daw sa company outing ng pinsan niya to Lian, Batangas and sa Tagaytay so nag-yes kaagad ako kase di pa ko nakakapunta sa Tagaytay hehehe puro Baguio lang. Tsaka 500 pesos lang ang damage all in :)

Mga 9PM ang assembly sa Tutuban and sa likod kami ng Land Rover nakasakay hahaha imaginin mo yun dadaan ka ng Cavite tapos expose na expose ka sa malakas na hangin, that was my first time travelling that way. Mga 2 hours lang nandun na kami sa bahay nung colleague ng pinsan ng friend ko (hehe) Malapit lang sa bahay nila ung beach so masaya talaga. Pagdating namin mga hatinggabi na sinaksak pa nila yung videoke para kumanta after kumain.

Kahit ayaw ko umitim eh di ko napigilan ang pag-aaya ng dagat sakin mwehehe. Nung una kase nakatingin lang ako sa mga kasama ko kase hinihintay kung bumaba man lang ng konti yung araw. Ayun di ko napigilan hehe. Mga 2 hours lang ako nakapagtiis tapos talon na ko sa tubig. Habang nasa tubig ka, di mo mapifeel ung init kase sobrang lamig ng tubig. Napansin ko lang na di iba na kulay ng balat ko nung umahon na ko. Hindi ko rin makalimutan yung swimming na to kase dito nawala ung kabibili ko lang na shades sa Bench. Kase ginagawa naming goggles yung shade namin, tapos dalawa samin ang nawalan ng shades dahil inagos hehehe adik no?

Kinabukasan bago umuwi eh daan kami sa Tagaytay, whew! ang init sobra buti nalang may ice cream dun, bumili rin ako ng mga souvenirs din para masaya. Di mo talaga makakalimutan pag perstaym.

Sayang talaga kase di pa ko nakakabili ng digicam nun. Kaya cellphone camera lang ang pampicture namin pero okay na rin. When we go back there, ready na ung camera :)

I already visited WhenInManila.com before I even meet Vince Golangco (one of the owner/contributor on the blog) in person at the DigitalFilipino E-Commerce Summit at Hotel Intercon. Actually I discovered the site thru YouTube.com in which Vince is a pseudo TV reporter making fun of the current events in the Philippines.

Here are the good things & not so good things about When In Manila, I will write it in bullets because I can't really construct good English sentences :)

Good Thing:

I really liked how the website is constructed. I like the color & it's easy to navigate from pages to pages.
I lurved the Jeepney icon, the one that conceptualized it must have a monument.
No ads at all.. well almost. That's a good thing because most Pinoy bloggers want to make money out of the ads on their blog hehe

Not So Good Thing:

The homepage is so big & take time to load, prolly because of some videos on the front page. Dial-up users will not be pleased LOL
If you're talking about Philippines in your blog, talk in Filipino especially in your videos or atleast 10% of the content is in Filipino. That's just a suggestion though.
The host is so "slang" at his videos (peace! hehe) it's like the target market of this website is upper A & B people & those Filipinos abroad. Well if that's your target audience, then good. What about the others? hehe
The blog uses http://www.wheninmanila.com/?p=976 instead of http://www.wheninmanila.com/the-ultimate-taste-event/ I heard that's not search engine friendly, I dunno why.
